Red kite, roe deer, possible sightings of osprey at Stroan loch, sandpiper, adder, red squirrels, buzzard, great spotted woodpecker, siskins, golden ringed dragonfly, otter

Summer visitors include Nightjar

Best in: open April - October (Closed during the winter)

Location:

The Raiders road Forest Drive is just off the A712 near Clatteringshaws visitor centre between Newton Stewart and New Galloway. It is a ten mile, two way tolled forest drive which can be accessed from near either Clatteringshaws visitor centre or Mossdale near New Galloway.

How to get there

Driving: From the west – follow the A75 towards Dumfries. Bypass Newton Stewart take a left turn onto the A712 towards New Galloway. Travel roughly 10 miles (17km) along this road passing the Wild Goat Park and Red Deer Range on your left. Continue north and the entrance to the Raiders Road Forest Drive is a little further along on your right hand side, near Clatteringshaws visitor centre.

Driving from the east – follow the A75 towards Newton Stewart. Just after you pass Blackcraig look take the next right signed A712. Travel roughly 10 miles (17km) along this road passing the Wild Goat Park and Red Deer Range on your left. Continue north passing the Raiders Road Forest Drive on your right.

Public transport: There are currently no public transport services operating along this road.

Facilities

Picnic benches and toilets at the Otterpool which is situated half way along the forest drive. Remember to take some coins for the toll machine.
