Wild Summer

Summer time and the land takes on that balmy atmosphere so redolent of childhood years.  Don’t be fooled though, the region's plants and animals are busy using the sun’s energy and the long days to ripen its seeds, to forage for food, to grow and be ready for the rigours of seasons to come.  At the same time we are busy organising all sorts of activity to get you out and about to see just how hard nature is working to ensure its survival.

Summer is a time for regeneration and renewal, for soaking up the energy and warmth of the sun (not always present here, but always trying to show itself) and for watching and learning more of the world around us in relaxed and rejuvenating surroundings, you’ve come to the right place.  The following spectacles show Dumfries and Galloway’s world-class summer offer at its magnificent best:

  • Ospreys at Wigtown Bay and Threave, near Castle Douglas
  • Perennial Flax at Brighouse Bay near Kirkcudbright
  • Butterflies and Dragonflies at the Knowetop Reserve of the Scottish Wildlife Trust

Use the navigator bar at the side of the page to discover the range of events and other opportunities we have here in Dumfries and Galloway to get you closer to nature, to see and experience its excitement and its spectacles and to get in amongst its never ending stories.
