Goosander in Dumfries and Galloway

GoosanderLarge fish eating duck with a long, narrow, serrated bill with a slight hook down towards the tip. The male is a peachy white on the flanks with a dark green head and the female has a grey body with a reddish brown head down to a sharp border on the neck. In autumn and winter they can be found in groups on lochs and rivers throughout the region but one of the best palaces to see them is at on the River Nith at the Whitesands in Dumfries. They often nest in tree holes.
