Hen Harriers in Dumfries and Galloway

Hen HarrierA long-winged bird of prey which hawks low over moorland and coastal marshes. The male is pale grey with black wing tips and a white rump. The larger female is brown with a ringed-tail and white rump. A rare sighting but can be seen in winter all along the coast of Dumfries and Galloway. In summer they nest at a few upland locations, the Langholm moors to the east of the region can give the best chances of a sighting.
