Pink-footed Goose in Dumfries and Galloway

Pink-footed GooseThe most common grey goose to be seen right across Dumfries & Galloway in winter. The plumage of these geese is predominantly greyish brown with a white  undertail and darker brown head and neck. They have pink legs and feet with a black bill with a small pink flash or ring. They breed in Iceland and can be seen grazing quite far inland across the region from October to March. They roost overnight on the Solway mudflats and inland lochs and their piglet like call can be heard overhead as they fly to and from the roost at dawn and dusk.
